Mini Beast Adventures
Outdoor Education Brand Identity & Positioning System
Mini Beast Adventures is a brand strategy, positioning and visual identity project for an independent outdoor educator moving from freelance instruction into running a commercial business. The job wasn't simply to create a logo. The brand needed a clear position, a recognisable visual identity and a system that could work across school pitches, digital materials and the realities of outdoor education. We built the identity around a custom negative space mark, a seasonal colour system and accessibility from the start, giving the business a distinctive visual language without losing the curiosity and character at the heart of what it does.

From Independent Instructor to Commercial Business Owner
Mini Beast Adventures began as a freelance led outdoor education offering. The challenge was to turn that individual service into a clear and credible business without sanding away the warmth, curiosity and enthusiasm that made it work in the first place.
The brand needed to speak to two very different audiences at once. Children needed imagination and discovery. Schools, parents and other decision makers needed structure, professionalism and confidence in the service. The identity had to bridge both without becoming either childish or painfully corporate.

Designing for Safety, Curiosity, and Institutional Trust
The founder's experience of working with neurodivergent children and students with additional needs shaped the thinking from the outset. That meant avoiding the usual outdoor education shortcuts and creating something that felt engaging without becoming chaotic or novelty driven.
The identity needed to work in the woods with children, but also sit comfortably in a school environment where safety, structure and professionalism matter. Outdoor learning isn't just a nice day outside. The brand needed to reflect the fact that there is real educational intent behind it.

Dual Storytelling Through Negative Space
The central mark brings two parts of the Mini Beast Adventures' story together in one simple idea. A British Sycamore leaf forms the outer shape, while a native Stag Beetle appears within the negative space. The beetle emerging from the leaf reflects the idea of discovery at the heart of the business: looking closer, finding what is hidden and understanding the smaller details of the natural world.
Rather than reaching for the usual mountain peaks, trees or cartoon insects, we built the idea around something the business actually teaches. The result is a mark that rewards a second look, much like the experience it represents.

Adaptive Seasonal Colour System for Year Round Identity
British woodlands don't look the same throughout the year, so there was little point pretending the brand needed to either. Instead of relying on one fixed palette, the visual identity uses a seasonal colour system that moves through the changing landscape, from fresh spring greens to warmer autumn tones.
The core identity stays recognisable while supporting colours can change with the season, activity or application. It gives the brand room to breathe without losing the consistency that makes a visual identity useful in the first place.

Accessibility as a Design Constraint, Not an Add On
Accessibility was treated as part of the design process rather than a box to tick at the end. Because Mini Beast Adventures works with neurodivergent children and students with additional needs, the identity needed to remain clear and usable in different situations. The mark was tested in black and white to make sure its form remained recognisable without relying on colour, while contrast and legibility were considered across the wider system.
Those constraints weren't a problem to design around. They helped strip the mark back to what actually mattered and made the identity clearer as a result.

Pitch Platforms, Reward Assets, and Physical Touchpoints
A good identity has to survive contact with the real world. Here, that meant building something that worked beyond a logo sheet and a nice looking presentation. A bespoke digital pitch platform gives Mini Beast Adventures a structured way to present school partnership proposals, while the visual identity carries through into practical physical touchpoints.
Reward stickers give children something tangible to take away from sessions, while enamel mugs and other branded materials bring the identity into the outdoor environment. Clear brand guidelines tie everything together, giving the business a system it can actually use as it grows.

A Brand Built for What Comes Next
Mini Beast Adventures needed a brand that could grow beyond one person's freelance service without losing what made it distinctive in the first place. The finished system gives the business a clear position, a recognisable visual identity and the practical tools to present itself consistently across schools, digital platforms and outdoor experiences. No unnecessary bells and whistles. Just a brand with enough character to be remembered and enough structure to do a proper job.
